Jean Rose was the first woman to enrol at the newly founded Bath Academy at Corsham Court after the end of the War. She was tutored by Peter Potorowski and worked alongside the artists ,Henry Cliffe and Keith Vaughan. She was, however, not drawn towards abstraction but towards the intimate interiors of Vuillard and Bonnard, fascinated by the poetry of the domestic.
Jean and her husband, the academic, Jasper Rose, travelled and worked in Cambridge and then in America for many years. Jean was often involved in initiating and supporting artists wherever she lived, returning eventually to Bath in her later years. Her son, the artist Balthazar Rose is also well known.
Jean's work is held in many private collections and in the public galleries in Bath and in Bushey, Hertfordshire.
