John Aldridge is remembered as one of the close knit Great Bardfield group of artists which included Edward Bawden and Eric Ravilious. John and Lucie Aldridge lived in the heart of this community and like their neighbours were driving the post-war focus on reviving English arts .John was closely involved with artists such as John Nash and Cedric Morris whose practices included landscape painting and design. By 1949 he was invited to teach at the Slade School by Sir William Coldstream, he retired in 1970. His work now hangs in The Tate, the V & A and the National Portrait Gallery.
