Margaret Green was born in Hartlepool but won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art which was then displaced to the Lake District.  There she met Lionel Bulmer and made an artistic couple for life, moving to teaching in London producing paintings of London parks, streets and embankments.    Later in life the couple moved to Suffolk and lived in an old hall house, during this time Margaret’s work became much smaller and more reticent though finely observed.  Her work is in the Tate Britain and the Government Art Collection and is often exhibited with David Messum Galleries.
