Oil on canvas, 16 x 20 in, signed, dated 1936
Lynton Lamb studied under Meninsky and Roberts at the Central School, and then shared a studio in the ’30’s with the noted painter Victor Pasmore Both artists were connected to the emerging Euston Road School and perhaps some of that quiet style is here in the record of a much loved interior. The café was the famous ‘Papa’ de Hems Dutch café in Soho, Macclesfield St., founded in the late Victorian days as an oyster bar and still much loved in the pre-war years.
Lynton Lamb was gifted in graphic design as well as painting and held a post in Lithography tuition at the Slade and taught painting at the Royal College of Art. Today nearly thirty paintings are held in the Government Collection alone.
